The 4 Cs
The 4 Cs are the pillars of a diamond, on which its value is based. The 4 Cs stand for the color of a diamond, the clarity whether it is flawless or not, the cut defines the shape of the diamond and the carat which is the weight at which a diamond is weighed. There are many laboratories around the world, which grade the diamonds and have designed charts and scales to grade the diamonds. Some of the world’s famous laboratories for diamond grading are American Gem Society (AGS), International Gemological Institute (IGI), European Gemological Laboratory (EGL), Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and Global Gemological Laboratory (GGL). These labs are authentic in preparing certificates for diamonds.A carat is a unit to measure the weight of the precious piece of diamond. Whenever a purchase of diamond jewelry is made its carat are mentioned specially. The abbreviation for carat is ct and ct TW means carat total weight of multiple diamonds set in a piece of jewelry. The large size diamonds are more in demand the smaller pieces are mostly rare. A solitaire ring with a single large 1-carat diamond would be more costly than the ring with many diamonds of smaller and equal size.
An ideal diamond is the one, which is transparent and has no color or hue in it.
