Claddagh Rings

The story of the Claddagh Rings began some 300 years ago from a small fishing village in Ireland when a folk called Richard Joyce became the slave, he was due to be married shortly and was quite upset as he was far from his lover. Richard Joyce was sold to a Moorish Goldsmith who was very rich; Richard due to his quick learning nature learnt the trade very quickly and easily with him. He learnt so much that soon he designed a ring, which was named as Claddagh Ring and referred as the ‘faith ring’. The Claddagh Ring became the symbol of love, loyalty and friendship, which is the true meaning of Claddagh. There are different versions about how Richard met his love. Some says that he escaped from slavery and went back to Claddagh while some believe that he was released when William III ordered to release all the slaves. Some even says that goldsmith offer half of his wealth and his only daughter for marriage to Richard. He however, took a claddagh ring and returned to his sweet lover. The story ended here but with this Claddagh Rings became famous among all and is still in use. In the world of today the Claddagh ring has become a symbol of love.
